About Mindfulness

If you've ever heard the term mindfulness and wondered what it's all about your not the only one! In recent years increased awareness of our mental wellbeing and a desire to look after ourselves amidst our busy lives has led many to the practice of mindfulness.
At its core, mindfulness is being aware of the present moment with acceptance, non-judgement and kindness. It's a simple concept yet it has the ability to change the way we relate to ourselves and view the world around us. It can slow the whirlwind of overthinking and overwhelm, give us time to appreciate the things we love and help us find stillness and calm in our often hectic schedules.
There are many ways to start practicing mindfulness, and its not all meditating with crossed legs in a quiet room. Breathing exercises, journaling, mindful eating and many more things are all ways to increase present moment awareness. And with this awareness comes appreciation and gratitude for the things we often miss when we're not paying quite so much attention. Life feels more vibrant and you more connected to it.
Mindfulness has been practiced for centuries with origins often credited to Buddhism, as a tool used by Buddha to help find enlightenment. In the western world mindfulness has been used to treat anxiety and depression through MBSR and MBCT, as well as to help manage stress and even physical symptoms related to long term health conditions.
Whether you're looking for a way to help yourself with the daily stresses of life, would like to pay more attention to your self care, or are even looking for a more spiritual journey mindfulness can be an excellent tool for you to learn.
